Modelling energy markets and the environment - forecast and derivation of energy policy strategies

 
Energy demand analyses are conducted by the EEG in the following sectors: industry, transport, households and services. For these investigations a detailed database is used, containing very disaggregated energy consumption data of almost all OECD-countries. These analyses cover econometric- as well as "Bottom-Up" indicator-approaches. In addition, the EEG sets up energy demand and CO2-emission forecasts and investigates the impact of energy-policy instruments (like taxes, standards, etc.). In this field the EEG co-operates with several European (e.g. Shared Analysis for EU, Energy Efficiency Project for IEA in Paris) as well as US partners (e.g. Energy Analysis Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in California).Research priorities are set up to develop cost-efficient measures stabilising climate change. In this connection social, ecological as well as economic effects of national measures (e.g. introduction of energy taxes, standards, promotion programmes, etc.) and important international instruments (like Emission Trading, Joint Implementation or the Clean Development Mechanism) are analysed. Furthermore, the EEG investigates the implementation under real-political conditions, especially under consideration of strategic behaviour. Another objective is the evaluation of reduction costs, national as well as international, by means of dynamic models.
