Recent presentations and publications

Reinhard Haas is professor at the "Institute of Energy Systems and Electric Drives" at Vienna University of Technology. Since 1996 he leads the Energy Economics Group, a specific research group at the School of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Reinhard Haas has studied industrial economics in mechanical engineering and holds a PhD in energy economics. He has worked since more than fifteen years in the field of dissemination strategies for renewables, energy modelling, sustainable energy systems, and liberalization versus regulation of energy markets. In these fields of research he has published various papers in reviewed international journals (see publication list).
Prof. Reinhard Haas worked as a researcher fellow at the solar power plant in Almeria/Spain, at Chalmers University in Gothenborg/Schweden, and in 1994 for half a year at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Energy Analysis Group) at University of California/Berkeley.
Over the last decade he has supervised and conducted research projects for the European Commission, the Austrian Ministry of Research and Science, the Austrian Foundation for Scientific Research, the Austrian National Bank, the Austrian Association of Electric Utilities, the municipal utility of Vienna and others.
Currently he is the co-ordinator of the project ALTERMOTIVE founded by the European Commission. He has also been the Austrian representative in various IEA research programme. Currently he is also responsible for the Austrian contribution to the Task VII ”Photovoltaics in the Built Environment”of the IEA Implementing Agreement on ”Photovoltaic Power Systems”. Furthermore, in 1997 he acted as a guest editor together with Lee Schipper for a special issue of Energy Policy on "Cross-Country Comparisons of Indicators of Energy Use, Energy Efficiency, and CO2 emissions".
Prof. Reinhard Haas teaches classes in "Energy Economics", "Energy modelling", "Regulation and competition in the energy sector" and "Economic and ecological heating". He also supervises several PhD and master theses in the field of Energy Economics.
