This spring, I had the opportunity to conduct a research visit at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at the University of Oxford, hosted by Prof. Jan Rosenow. My focus there was to work on my second PhD paper, co-authored with Sebastian and Jan, titled "Rethinking Energy Security for Net Zero: Introducing a Supply Risk Budget", which develops a quantitative framework to assess and allocate supply risk across commodities in a net-zero European energy system.
My main aim was to draw on the Institute's expertise in energy policy and governance to sharpen the paper's policy relevance. During my stay I was able to deeply immerse myself in academic life at Oxford – attending lectures, events, and meeting researchers and professors for scientific exchange, which constantly sparked new ideas for my research. What impressed me most was the culture of curiosity: science is passionately discussed everywhere – over lunch, at formal dinners, in the colleges.
Overall, the stay contributed to both my scientific and personal growth, leaving me with valuable feedback and fresh inspiration for the work ahead. Above all, I hope it marks the beginning of a lasting connection between TU Wien and the University of Oxford, one I look forward to continuing.
