Project description

Member of Planning Group for International Council for Science (ICSU) International Science Panel on Renewable Energy (ISPRE).

The International Science Panel on Renewable Energy (ISPRE) was established under the umbrella of International Council for Science (ICSU), as a new mechanism to address the issue of sustainable energy systems, to coordinate and promote R&D on renewable energy technologies. The German Government had offered funding for initial efforts to explore this idea. The funding was offered to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems which in turn suggested that ICSU would be the appropriate organization to oversee this effort. Staff from the ICSU Secretariat and Fraunhofer had been working together to define the goals, operating mechanisms, and timeline for these initial planning efforts. The Executive Board underlined the importance of viewing renewable energy in a larger context.
