Leopold joined the Energy Economics Group (EEG) as a research associate and PhD candidate in May 2025. He holds a master's degree in Power Engineering and Sustainable Energy Systems (2025) from TU Wien and spent a semester abroad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on modeling integrated energy systems across multiple spatial scales and sectors, as well as developing implementation-oriented energy transition strategies for regions and municipalities. In this context, energy system flexibility and spatially-resolved decarbonization pathways play a major role.
